Maker Missions

Let’s start from the beginning then. My academic life changed when I ran into this institution – Casa Thomas Jefferson – but you can call it CTJ, Casa or just Thomas.

Here is a little bit about the place where my story as a Maker Educator began...

Meet Casa Thomas Jeffersom [CTJ]. CTJ is a non-profit institution that has been teaching English for more than 55 years. It is also a Binational Center and an American Space recognized by the United States Embassy.

Thomas is full of projects and programs for their teachers and for teachers from all over the world.

These projects and programs not only help English teachers with their professional development, but also extend opportunities to teachers from other areas and subjects.

The institution’s mission is to connect and transform lives across generations through unique learning experiences, creating opportunities for the personal, social and professional evolution of its students, employees and community.

CTJ’s purpose goes far beyond teaching English. Multidisciplinary, cultural and inclusion experiences are part of our essence and mission. We are proud to develop programs and projects that bring benefits to the community.

And then, at CTJ, I get to know the Thomas Maker space and its team...

It was love at first sight! First, because the place is just amazing. Second, because the way they believe in collaborative learning is really in sync with my practice as an educator.

I took a course with them on maker-centered learning [MCL] and it changed my teaching practice. It helped me shape the teacher I am today. As an Arts teacher, I was really fond of making things, but Thomas Maker helped me reach the next level in my career.

Here, in my blog, I will talk about all this stuff: makerspaces, maker-centered learning, the tools I discovered at Thomas Maker to help me plan my classes, and I will also share my experiences with you.
